Do you really want to lose some weight? Oh sure we all do, but ask yourself why? Make a list of reasons on why you want to or should. You may want to feel better or look better at a future event. Maybe you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. Whatever the reason, you should WANT to lose weight. When it comes to weight loss, there are a few things NOT to do. First, throw away the scale. It means NOTHING. Patients that have not been in my office in several months ( and shame on you for neglecting your spine and nervous system ) have commented on my weight loss. The fact is I am actually 5 pounds HEAVIER. So why do I look better? Well I have lost FAT and put on muscle. I have changed my body composition.
 
I have too many patients that are starving themselves or drinking a SLIM-FAST. That is not the way to be healthy. If you want to lose pounds, find any local high school wrestling coach and ask him how they get their kids to make weight for a match. It is not FAT lose nor is it healthy. Stop doing that, your body enters starvation mode and uses BONE and MUSCLE for fuel.
 
Of course you can wait on the FDA. This is the Food and Drug Administration that is designed to protect us. This is the governmental organization that will recall a baby crib if 3 kids get their heads stuck, but they will not regulate but do allow cigarettes to be sold. Smoking only has 4000 chemicals which 15% are carcinogenic and allowing carbon monoxide into the bloodstream is just about the worst thing you can do for your health. Maybe you like to inhale car exhaust?
 
The FDA is getting ready to approve 2 new weight loss drugs. Now before you get excited, that you can do whatever you want to your body and pop the magic pill, understand again how the med-heads think. Drugs continue to chase symptoms ONLY. Medications in turn then create more symptoms, which luckily they have a pill for that. So these pills just suppress the appetite. Trust me NOT eating is not the answer.
 
As obesity is skyrocketing faster than Apple's stock, and diabetes is becoming the norm and not the exception, these drugs do not fight fat or burn fat, but simply suppress the appetite. Again starving yourself is NOT the answer, nor is it a solution. You can lose weight EASILY, if you follow the rules. You don't overeat, you avoid processed foods, you increase your lean protein, you drink only water. By doing these things you will not only cut your addiction to sugar but as a side effect will sleep better, have more energy and actually lose fat.
 
I am in the process of writing my book and this will be discussed in detail. But you don't need exercise to lose weight, but you should exercise. If you do ADD exercise, add exercise correctly, you can turn your body into a fat burning furnace. There is no quick fix or solution. Summer is coming. 2013 is coming. The future cannot be stopped. Where will your health be? This is up to you. It all starts with the first thing I said, make your list of all the why's you want to lose weight. You must then decide, do you want reasons on why you can't or do you want results. Results over reasons! In life when your WHY is big enough, you will determine the how.

I guess it can be summed up by a quote from the movie, The Shawshank Redemption, "Get busy living or get busy dying."
